Introduction

Our great great great grandmother Jemma first met with Patricia about 20 years ago.  Jemma by all accounts loved having kittens so Patricia, on a good friends advice offered her services as nanny and nurse - as and when required.  They loved each other very much, so much in fact that our current prefix Pazajem incorporated them both and Jemmas first daughter Zara.

So to explain Pa Patrica, Za was for Zara – and Jem for great great great grandmother Jemma.

Jemma explained to Patricia our heritage, and she has worshipped us ever since, which is only natural.

Our Heritage - We are an ancient breed of cat originating in the Far East , and it is said we are the Sacred Cats of Burma.  It is from here  the very first Birmans that came to Europe were imported at the beginning of the century.  Our breed became almost extinct in Europe during the 1939/45 war, and the modern Birman has largely developed from cats imported to America from Thailand and survivors of our original lines in France .

The Legend – We were revered in our native land in the Holy temples, where people believed that the souls of the departed priests returned in the form of my ancestors, who were at that time pure white cats. One evening the Temple of Leo-Tsun was overrun by invaders, who took their fill of bounty and also took the life of the High Priest.  The Birman cat Shin immediately stood guard over the body of his Master, with his front paws on the Priests head, facing the statue of Tsun-Kyan-Kse the High Priestess.  As the cat kept his vigil, a wondrous transformation occurred.  His coat, which had been entirely white, took on the golden glow radiating from the statue of the priestess, and the eyes, which had been yellow, became a deep sapphire blue.  His legs, tail and face became brown, the colour of earth, all except his feet that rested on the Priest which remained white, the sign of the purity of the soul of the Priest.  The next morning all the cats in the temple had been transformed.  For seven days Sinh remained by the side of his beloved master, then he too died carrying with him his masters soul.  (This is how we became so unique and beautiful).

More of us heard about Patricia so we came to live with her too, she encouraged our vanity by showing us and winning many rosettes with dangling ribbons for us to play with.
