Q
which is a better pet, male or female?
A Boys and girls settle easily into a
new home, but sometimes boys can be a little more
affectionate. Some girls can be a little stronger minded,
but will love you to bits - be it on their own terms. Once
neutered both are really loving, as is the nature of all Birmans.
Q
Is it ok for me to have one kitten?
A again I think it is better to have two kittens even if one is a moggy,
please ensure however, the moggy comes from a good reliable source and
is fully vaccinated and wormed. Two kittens together have
much more fun and will keep each other (and you) amused for hours
- (after all you wouldn’t want to be the only human being in the animal
world would you?)
Q
what is the life span of Birman’s?
A I would say 15 to 20years as long as you feed your Birman good cat
food and keep safe from RTA it will live a long and happy life.
I would prefer my kittens to be house cats, and not allowed to
roam. If you DO let them out please get them in BEFORE you
leave to go out yourself.
Q
why do I have to wait 13 weeks for my kitten?
A kitten should not go to their new homes until they are fully
vaccinated (1st one being 9weeks 2nd at 12weeks
plus a
couple of days allowed for them to settle,) wormed and registered with
the GCCF (Governing Council of the Cat Fancy). There are other
registering bodies, but this is the one I use.
Q
Can I name the kitten or do you have to?
A Yes, you can name it but make sure you tell the breeder at least 4weeks
in advance so they can register the name with the GCCF. If
you don’t like the registered name, you can use any pet name of your
own choice. If you do show the kitten/cat you must use the registered name
on the entry form.
Q
Can I breed if I buy a female kitten?
A No. If you buy a kitten
as a pet the GCCF have guidelines that a responsible
breeder follows. The breeder will only put the kitten on the active list if that
kitten is of sufficient quality to be bred from or shown. Do
ask the breeder for the kitten you require ie - show/breed or simply
pet.
Q
When should a pet kitten be neutered?
A In my opinion males should be
neutered at about 9 months of age, when they are fully grown.
Females slightly earlier at around 6 months old.
Q
Do I have to buy special food for Birmans
A No just make sure you feed the kitten/cat on cat food as it is
balanced to their needs, and contains all their nutritional
requirements. You are being unkind if you feed human food
to
your pet long term, but treats can be given occasionally (ie chicken,
ham etc).
Q
Can I show a pet kitten?
A You should ask the breeder if in their opinion, the kitten is showable
you do not want to waste your money, but yes you can show at local shows
if that is want you want
Q
do you give guarantees
A No need to, all my kittens come from good stock,
and I do give 6weeks insurance with every kitten, this can be renewed
annually at the owners discretion. If
for any reason you are not happy with the kitten I will have him back
Please
contact me should you have any questions concerning
the care of Birmans, I will do my best to assist
and if I cannot help you - I am sure to know someone who can!
